I have just returned from a 14 holiday in the maldives Club Faru north male atol. I had previously visited the Maldives 11 years back visiting the island of Kuredu. I was taken by its beauty and the typical robinson caruso aspect of it all. This time round I was quite shaken but not surprised by the increased popularity of the islands themselves. Call me selfish and I deserve the title but feel they are too beautiful for their own good and tourism will undoubtly spoil these beautiful islands.
On my first visit upon arrival we were presented with a list of requirements of do’s and dont’s, quite rightly so, if you want noise and the usual brash entertainment of summer holidays then please go somewhere else.
I was horrified to find on club faru, north male atol, a banana boat screeching its way across the water, also those dreadful doghnuts ploughing their way through the surf, and to my ultimate disgust children kicking football outside of peoples accommodation regardless of there being a site allocated at the top of the island for this activity, and whoever he was, whatever nationality a bloke was fishing with a rod from the little rock formations on the beach, I was mortified. The bahaviour of some Italians pulling and stretching a sea cucumber, people like these do not deserve the privilage of visiting such places, unfortunately we cannot stop them visiting but perhaps we could curtail such behaviour. What next I wonder, hair braiding on the beach!! I was also amazed at the amount of rubbish being dumped into the sea, bottles, plastic cartons and bags, for heavens sake this is supposed to be a pristine environment possibly one of the most beautiful environments in the world, are we going to spoil it with our rubbish of one kind or another.
I wish travel agents would make sure that in their endeavour to give us all a glimpse of how beautiful the world is, it would be mindful not to turn these beautiful places into tropical Blackpools of the future, I for one would be truly sorry to see these beautiful islands turned into trashy replica’s of Benidorm and Greece destroyed by our ignorance and inconsideration.
The islands are beautiful lets keep them that way.
i have never been to the maldives but it looks like fun .
