Customs: The language spoken in the Maldives is Dhivehi, and the script runs from right to left. However, English is widely spoken, and especially used in business and education. The Maldives is an Islamic nation and as such tourists are asked to wear clothes that cover the thighs and upper body, unless they are in a resort where they can wear swimwear.
